On Farm Research is a joint venture with scientist, Dr Paul Muir, providing farm-based applied research to the agricultural sector.  The business runs the Poukawa Research Farm, which is the primary pastoral research facility on the East Coast of the North Island.  On Farm Research carries out work for Government, Industry and private sectors, including Brownrigg Agriculture.

Applied research is the crucial link between the development of new technologies and their implementation on the pastoral farms of New Zealand.  On Farm Research has a wealth of experience and capability in demonstrating, commercialising and showcasing such technology application.

The prioritisation of industry good research work at On Farm Research is overseen by a community group, the Poukawa Research Foundation, made up of representatives of agricultural businesses from the region and currently chaired by well-known local Veterinarian, Richard Lee.

Longstanding, key work at On Farm Research includes a wide range of sheep productivity initiatives, pasture work relevant to the East Coast, and calf rearing work, where On Farm Research is the principal provider in NZ.
