Brownrigg Agriculture is a significant privately-owned farming operation spanning the livestock and horticultural cropping industries.  Our Wagyu business is a key component in the Livestock enterprise and is moving through a phase of growth and development calling for additional resource to help steer it into the future.

Being a new role, based in Hawke’s Bay and reporting to the GM Livestock, you will be overseeing the groups wider Wagyu interests. Reflecting the diverse nature of the business the key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Contract and relationship management
  • Technical support
  • Feedlot management
  • Supply chain planning

The Brownrigg group, including its subsidiary Wagyu Breeders Ltd, have cornerstone supply agreements with key partners both in the grass-fed and grain-finished space.  This role will be pivotal in managing our obligations under these agreements and being a central liaison point for these business streams, both for the customer and internal staff.

The business relies on operational specialists and outsourced technical expertise.  In matters of a technical nature (in areas such genetics, animal health and nutrition) the Supply Chain Manager would be responsible for assimilating and distilling this information and advice so that optimum decisions are made, and actions taken. The role will also focus on driving performance and consistency across our Wagyu cattle throughout the supply chain, this will begin with collation and analysis of performance records and real-time feedback for farmers.

We have a service contract to finish Wagyu cattle on a grain-based diet in feedlot operations over two specialist sites. This role will have responsibility and oversight of the feedlot operations with the feedlot site managers reporting to it. An understanding of high-performance cattle feeding systems would be beneficial.

Our supply and service contract require us to breed, background on grass and then feedlot finish cattle on an even supply basis throughout the year.  The multi-year horizon requires good planning, precision execution and close monitoring which this role will be pivotal in. There will be a requirement to communicate well with others and success will be achieving goals though other’s actions.

In summary you must be commercially savvy, have strong analytical skills, be technically sound and have a genuine ability to build and manage relationships.

You will most likely hold an appropriate tertiary qualification, have a solid background in livestock farming systems and proven commercial management experience.  The extent of your experience will reflect the remuneration you can earn here.
